What is Link Building?

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5126/5328546356_5bd03b46bc

Article by Liz Jones

Although the term “link building” conjures up the image of tiny little men with carpentry tools running around the Internet between websites with large links resembling chains, the idea is really not that far off. Link building is the process of linking one web page to another through words called anchor text.

A link connects the anchor text or an object on one web page (Point A) to another web page (Point B). There are many methods of linking. They are usually initiated by someone at Point B, not Point A. This can be done through pay-per-click advertising on search engines, individual links placed on link lists or reference pages on other websites, and display ads on blogs or websites. Another method is article marketing, where contextual links are embedded in a posted article and link back to the website. While these are all fine ways to link from, some website pages carry more authority, or link juice, than others with the search engines. Higher authority of links helps increase page ranking. Higher page ranking improves search engine positioning and visibility. Higher positioning and visibility improve website traffic, which in turn bumps up customers and sales. While it is true that a business can be successful without making any efforts to draw customers to its website, it makes one wonder why a business would operate that way, when link building would bring even more revenue. Link building is a simple idea, although it is extremely time consuming and must be done properly for it to benefit the business. For those that do not have the time, energy or knowhow, there are search engine optimization (SEO) agencies that will do it for their clients. These specialists are well-versed in the process and know which types of links are beneficial and which are detrimental. The more links there are pointing to Point B, the more likely people are to find the website, which is the basic idea behind gaining web traffic and increasing search engine ranking. The two main types of link building are through paid advertising links and natural or organic links. Paid advertising links are one of the easiest types to secure. The business contacts a search engine advertising company, tells them what keyword terms they would like to target, then places an ad for the keywords to target Point B. In this case, the links from Point A would come from the search engine ad.

Organic links come from other sites that want to share the information with their web page visitors. It may be a blog, article marketing site or like-minded organization.

Best New SEO Tools

The science of SEO is one that for maximum effectiveness relies heavily on tools. From Google Analytics and AdWords, to Buzzstream and Ontolo, tools have become an SEO’s best friend, making our lives some million times easier. What’s better is that new tools are constantly being developed and released. Here are the best newcomers:

Linkdex

Linkdex is a fantastic tool for competitor analysis, as well as rank checking and back link analysis. Offering anchor text reports, Linkdex can analyse the type of links you have in your profile, in addition to those in the profiles of your competition. In addition, a time filter can be included to the analysis, which when attached to an on page keyword analysis and rank checking, provide SEOs with a dream tool.

For those seeking an explanation to why they’ve been outranked, and information on the type of link building needed to beat the competition, Linkdex is your tool; answering these questions in an easily translatable bar chart form.

The only set back to Linkdex is that it’s fairly new and so there are a few aspects that require more work.

Web Page Test

Page speed is an often ignored, yet fundamental factor for SEOs. Originally developed for AOL, Web Page Test speed tests your site from a variety of different locations and includes the ability to do so through a variety of different types of browsers.

Then, after the scan completes you’re brought with invaluable information such as how long the page takes, to how long it takes specific items to load, resource by resource.

You can then have a look at the elements that really slow your site down, while 4xx and 3xx header codes are very easy to spot, making the workload of an SEO even easier.

As if all that wasn’t enough, we’re given a Full Optimization Checklist, which entails a range of possible areas that upon improvement can make your site run quicker.

Bulk Domain Checker

When it comes to outreaching, a tool that gathers contact information and important metrics about a URL is so handy that it’s become an essentiality. This is where Bulk Domain Checker comes in. Developed by Outreachr and Orchid Box, Bulk Domain Checker grabs contact details, SEO metrics and a host of other valuable information about whichever URLs you type into it.

Bulk domain Checker gives you the Google PageRank, Domain Authority, MozRank, the number of links and number of root domains for whichever URLs you pop in. If all that weren’t enough, you get the IP address and contact information, just to make your life that little bit easier.

Thinking of Guest Blogging? The Benefits

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5070/5726355878_4f346c7d88

Thinking of guest blogging? Well let me give you some advice. Give it a go and you won’t be disappointed as long as you make a few wise choices.

Many people have said to me lately why do I rate guest blogging so much and why do I offer a lot of the posts I write to other blogs. Well I can see why many people would ask this question as it seems quite strange why I would want to give away some of my best work to other peoples sites. Well when you think about it it’s not really a bad idea at all, especially if you are just creating a new blog. When you create a new blog or website you may be posting some of the best articles ever written but what is the point if nobody knows that they exist. Well by posting them on more popular blogs you are displaying your content to a greater audience and the reader will still know that it is yourself who has written it.

Guest blogging benefits everyone!!! It benefits your own reputation, it benefits your own website, it benefits your readers and visitors (as they get to read your wonderful posts), it benefits your hosts website and it will also develop you many professional contacts which are probably the best benefits of them all.

1.

More traffic

Ultimately this is what every blog owner wants to achieve. It’s the reason that we all blog in the first place because we want to get visitors to our site and read what we have written. Guest blogging exposes your site to a new audience and new visitors can turn into regular visitors. Massive increases in traffic won’t occur over night but over time as you develop a following guest blogging can really boost your sites popularity.

2. Develop Quality Links

Quality of links is the fundamental basis of how well your site will perform in terms of SEO.

Backlinks and quality ones in particular are what will lead to your site gaining better ranking within search engines again leading to more traffic. By guest blogging you will develop high quality, topic related links that will not only help your search engine performance but will also drive direct traffic to your site if readers appreciate your guest posts.

3. Improved reputation

In the world of blogging and web design reputation can count for everything. If you have a poor reputation then this can get around and your overall success can be damaged because of it. When starting out you are looking to develop relationships and good ones at that. By offering out your best work to other successful sites you are developing a good relationship between not only yourself and that website owner but between yourself and the whole of that websites users as well. The better your reputation, the better your conversion rates and the more likely people are going to be to link to your own website and work.

4. More Subscribers

Returning visitors and subscribers are the best type of online traffic. Traffic from the search engines and other sites is most important in the early stages of site development but in the long term converting those visitors into regular, committed readers is what we are all looking to achieve. Guest blogging targets the type of visitors you are looking for and by having a relationship with the host blog (many of the visitors being host subscribers) will increase the chance of those visitors being converted into your own subscribers as well.

5. Search Engine Improvements

As I mentioned earlier guest blogging can develop you some of the best content related, keyword rich, one way links that you can possibly gain. Backlinks are the most important aspect of modern SEO. Forget about the direct traffic from these links for the moment as we have already spoke about these. If you target the correct blogs, many of which will be high page rank blogs, then some of this page rank will be passed on to yourself improving your own visibility and this is really important in the early days of site promotion. The higher the ranking of your site the more visitors you will receive. One thing to remember is to make sure you create your host author information box wisely and use the related keywords as your own site links. The search engines have algorithms that place surprising emphasis on links from websites that are considered trusted and relevant. Therefore you’re not just getting any old link, you’re getting a link that has potential to really influence your search engine rankings.

6. Great content exposure

With many of today’s SEO strategies being barred by Google, guest blogging is one of the most highly looked upon and respected SEO strategies out there today. As a result of the it’s not easy developing a popular website where all of your great content is visible to the world. Rather than having your content and hard work being hidden in the dark corners of the internet offer it out to highly popular sites, they will appreciate your work and give you great exposure to the masses.

7. Relevancy

Promotion of any product or service is no good if you aren’t targeting the correct market. The same applies to your website or blog. By guest blogging you are targeting an audience that wants to learn more about you and the services you offer. When the user clicks through to your site they are already interested in what you have to say and are much more likely to become a regular returning visitor. It’s even been said that 20% of users that click through to a site from a guest blog post will become an RSS Subscriber to your own feed.

8. Long term effects

What we are all looking for when it comes to site promotion is the long term effects that any of our techniques have. Eventually there is going to become a time when we would like to think that our site becomes so popular that constant SEO and promotion isn’t needed as much. Guest blogging has many benefits in the long term. Bloggers that you write for will remember you and will be likely to link back to your site further down the line. They may also talk about your site via social media participation and in their own posts. However the most important point to remember is that if you have done a great job for them they are always likely to help you out in the future in many other ways. By putting your name out there you open up numerous opportunities for yourself by developing these relationships, whether that be via business opportunities, bloggers writing posts for you or even just a simple referral to your work.

9. Company Branding

Every time you mention your blog name at the end of a guest article, you’re imprinting your blog name (or business name, or your name) on the reader. Studies show that the more familiar a person is with a brand, the more they trust that brand.
With that trust, a visitor is more likely to refer you to their friends, subscribe to your blog, or buy something from you.

10. Improved social media visibility

Social media has become massive in recent years. With the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Digg and StumbleUpon becoming goldmines for blog and website owners. Highly popular bloggers are also usually social media power users and when you guest post for these bloggers they are more likely to visit your own site and check your work out. They may even submit your work via social media. When this happens you really will notice the difference as your work will potentially be submitted to the thousands.

The Benefits – Conclusion

Up until now, I’ve mainly focused on the benefits of being a guest writer. However, as a blog owner, guest blogging is a great opportunity for you to get some free content and give your regular readers a little diversity in what articles they can read on your blog.

What is the point of Guest Posting your Articles

http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4093/5448053867_d717b04b85

Article by Andrew Rondeau

So, how do you feel about giving your best blogs posts away and have them guest posted somewhere else?

Not too sure?

Well you should as long as you aim to get them posted on a more popular and higher ranking site than your own, then it really is worth doing.

Why?

Many reasons really including:

* Increasing your profile

* The backlink from the higher ranking site

* Traffic. You are going to have a link in your post and that will bring traffic

* More opt-ins if you have a giveaway

* More people signing up to your RSS feeds

So, yes it is worth giving away your best articles as guest posts.

So how do you start to guest post?

1. Make sure your article is totally original. If you think you can copy bits of other peoples articles, tweak a little and make it your own, you are wrong. The receiving blogger is going to check that it is unique using a tool like CopyScape.

And one more thing, it can only be posted on the receiver’s website. You can’t go and then submit it around a load of Ezines or even your own blog.

2. I will say it, but it is obvious. Grammar, spelling all that stuff. Make sure you check and double check. Last thing you want is the receiver to dismiss your article because of some silly spelling error.

Of course, we all make mistakes and perhaps one error is fine, but not 4 or 5. If in doubt, get someone else to check it. I type fast and just write how I think, so I always get someone else to check my articles before I publish them.

3. Don’t promote your site or add any affiliate in your article. That is definitely a no-no. Of course, you are going to have some sort of resource bio, like “This post was written by Andrew Rondeau who owns the blog with the catchy name, http://www.webuildyourblog.com” or something like that.

So you are proud of your post and raring to go.

Excellent!

About 3 weeks ago I wrote to 2 bloggers with my guest posts. Both politely replied and said, “No thanks. I’m not accepting any guest posts at this time”.

A little disheartening, but they did reply and they were polite. I bet a few bloggers don’t even reply!

But I thought, right. “I’ll show you!”

So I wrote to Darren over at the biggest Internet Marketing blog in the world, ProBlogger.net.

I know what you are thinking…

Why didn’t I write to Darren first?

Honestly – I didn’t think he would say, “Yes”.

Of course, I loved the article I was asking to be guest posted but here was the most ‘famous’ Internet Marketing blogger around. Why should he say yes to me?

I actually send Darren 3 articles to choose from – he must like one of them, I thought.

I loved all 3!

A few hours there was a reply in my email in-box.

There it was staring at me, all ‘bold’ because I had yet to open and read it.

I didn’t want to open it. I was scared. Why? It’s only a ‘yes’ or ‘no’, it doesn’t matter!

If he says, ‘Yes’, then that would be great.

If he says, ‘No’, then move on and try someone else. Persistence that’s what it takes, isn’t it?

But the little voice in my head was saying, “He’s gonna say ‘no’!”

I made a cup of tea for courage.

I opened the e-mail.

The man from ProBlogger – he says “YES”.

I put on my fav Michael Jackson song, “Beat it” and danced around the room.

Then I thought, right I must write a fantastic resource bio.

I deliberated for ages on what to write. I asked my wife. We look at what others had already written for their bios on Darren’s blog.

This is what we wrote, “Andrew Rondeau recently moved from his “corporate 9-5 job” to become a full-time blogger and internet marketer. Check out Andrew’s latest blog, we build your blog, and pick up his free blogging ebook.”

My wife and I deliberated so much over the bio, by the time we had sent it to Darren, the article was already posted!

So, last week was an amazing time for my little ol’ blog.

Website Traffic Tips: Why Is Online Link Building Important?

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7010/6809755131_292cdde8e8

Article by Ricky Weber

Copyright (c) 2012 RickyWeber.com

No matter what website you are talking about on the internet, even if it is a big website that has hundreds of thousands or even millions of pages, the essence of a website is that it is just a bunch of files sitting on a computer. Just like a regular document such as a Microsoft Word file, even though this computer might be connected to the internet so that it can be accessed from other computers, it is still a collection of files stored on a hard drive.

When you learn about the history of the internet and the advent of the hyperlink many years ago, you find that the only way that it was possible for people to find these files that were stored across different computers was to link to them from another file or to type in the file name directly. While the internet of today has features such as language-based search engines that can help you find what you are looking for in a matter of seconds, that does not mean that you can discount the importance of building links to the individual files and links on your website.

In fact, link building is more important today than it was back when the internet first got started, since today the number and relevance of incoming links will help search engines determine what keywords your website should rank highly for, and how high up on the results your web page should be listed. Back when internet service providers would directly host other people’s websites as part of their service package (and sometimes this was the only way to get your website on the internet), they would hardly offer any sort of online marketing or publicity that would allow that website to be found since internet marketing was a new industry.

Internet marketing and web design are not the same discipline, and you can have an excellent website that has zero visitors because the website itself is nothing more than a collection of files sitting on a computer hard drive somewhere. Other sites and web pages need to link to your website in order to make it findable and searchable, otherwise it might end up being invisible to a large portion of internet users. While it is important for you to submit your site to the search engines, you may not show up in the results for a particular keyword because the lack of incoming links also indicates a lack of authority.

6 Mistakes to Avoid When Submitting a Guest Post

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6182/6123186396_d74a4680e5
guest posts
by Raul P

Article by Lorin Willis

Whether you are guest blogging as a marketing tool or just for fun, the pressure of producing quality work that attracts readers and benefits the blog you are writing for, as well as your own career, can be stressful. Mistakes in guest blog posts can be harmful to your reputation and your business.

When you submit a subpar post, your reputation as a blogger suffers and you may lose future clients, which will affect your business. Readers may lose respect for you as an expert and the blog owner will be less inclined to invite you back.

However, by keeping a few things in mind you can easily avoid these mistakes and make sure your reap the full rewards of your guest blogging efforts.

Here are five common mistakes that rookie guest bloggers make and how you can avoid them:

1. It’s All In the Rule Book

Mistake: You forgot to check the blog or ask the blogger for guidelines on topic, length and links. Your post is rejected by the blogger or you spend valuable time reworking your article.

Fix: Search the site for rules on posting or reach out to the blogger and ask them for their guidelines. You will both be happy you did.

2. Repetition is Uninspiring

Mistake: You start writing before doing some research on previous posts. Chances are that the first topic you came up with has already been covered.

Fix: Browse the past few pages of posts, search for keywords and pitch your idea to the blogger before you start writing. That way you are sure to submit an original post that benefits everyone.

3. Talking to a Brick Wall

Mistake: You ignore the audience and write a post using whatever style, tone and messaging you want. Readers are bored and the blogger loses momentum on their blog.

Fix: Understand who the audience is. Talk to the blogger, read comments and do some research into the blog’s niche. You will be much more likely to keep the audience reading.

4. Communication is Key

Mistake: You are invited to guest blog and never speak to the blogger again until you submit your post. Your ideas don’t line up and you and the blogger are on different pages.

Fix: After accepting an invitation to guest post, have a solid conversation with the blogger. Learn what his or her expectations are and what they are looking for in a guest post from you. That way there are no surprises when you submit your work.

5. Satisfy the Masses

Mistake: You submit a post and never return to the blog, abandoning a new network of readers, writers and even potential customers.

Fix: After your post is published, return to the blog and respond to comments on your post. Also, don’t forget to continue to be an active member of the audience by commenting on other posts and keeping in touch with the blogger.

Which Protein Powder to Choose in 2012

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6809754903_ff37e9b624

Article by Ulrick S. Amazon

You can find many types of protein powder, but what’s the best choice for you now, in 2012? You can find many competing brands telling you why theirs is the best, but you have to look at the reputation of the company and perhaps try a few products yourself. What follows is a look at some popular protein powders, and some guidelines on choosing the best ones for your needs.

Whether you are looking to build muscle or something that is good for your whole body, the product you may want is a high quality protein powder called Garden of Life RAW Protein. Garden of Life is a company that makes a variety of supplements, and focuses on using all natural and raw foods. Their RAW Protein is no exception, and this has ingredients you won’t find in most other powders, such as raw sprouts, beans, grains and seeds. This plant-based supplement can be used by anyone who can’t take dairy products and needs to avoid them. There have been health risks linked to soy, and many people are sensitive to it, but this product doesn’t have any. If you are searching for a healthy powder, RAW Protein not only gives you chlorella, and other healthy greens, but also probiotics as a digestion help.

All of the decisions are ultimately up to you, but since even the experts disagree on caffeine, it will be up to you on how it makes you feel.

Click Espresso protein drink is for coffee lovers who find that it makes their workouts go better. Workouts can be more effective when you are using caffeine, according to some evidence, but it is sensitive to some people. To get your espresso, take this supplement and you will also get vitamins, minerals, and a high quality protein. The products from Click are gluten-free, naturally flavored and made from cow’s milk that has not been treated with hormones. They do, however, contain sweeteners that contain fructose and sucratose and some users find that it’s on the sweet side.

Everyone needs their own system that works for them, including the right protein powder and the right schedule. One factor to consider is whether the supplement is a meal replacement or something you’re taking in addition to regular meals. If you’re taking a protein that’s designed as a meal replacement, you’ll have to get used to this and not consume extra calories, especially if you’re trying to lose weight or reduce fat. If your goal is to gain weight or muscle mass, on the other hand, you should eat nutritious meals in addition to any protein supplement you’re taking. You are the one, who will need to follow a plan, that will accomplish what you want, so find a diet and protein powder that will fit what you want to accomplish. There are many good powders to choose from in 2012, and we’ve looked at a few in this article. There’s no single best protein powder for everyone, as some people prefer whey protein, while others prefer plant based protein. You also have to factor in how many calories you want to consume, whether your main goal is to put on muscle, lose fat or improve endurance.

Since this article describes, you will need to fully grasp your health and weight reduction goals when utilizing protein powders. A lot of mature single gals are finding that protein in addition to a common sense eating and working out plan is an effective way to lose weight naturally after 40 and also to make themselves more inviting to gentlemen. Link building

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7202/7021127045_8d5d05aa71

While article marketing is highly esteemed as an earner of very high return on investment, it is also the most cost-effective method of engaging in link building on a website. Link-building itself is vital to all website owners and marketers, as it can have a dramatic effect on website traffic and business sales.

What is the significance of link-building? Most importantly, links into your website increase your rankings in search engines, as each one of the search engines in the market must determine which sites appear when showing the search results and which not. Search engines operate on a complex mathematical formula to assess which websites crop up in search results and the order in which they make their appearance. A prominent factor in the calculation is the number of other websites that include links to the site under evaluation.

As well as helping to improve your website’s score in the arithmetical formulae, link-building creates instant new traffic streams for your site. Because every article that you send out for distribution will have in it a link to your website, it follows that every time that article is posted on another person’s website you have a fresh potential traffic source.

Yes, there is a downside to link-building; the process is a laborious one, and the link is actually the biggest expense that the average site will incur. But you must have one for your marketing to be productive. There are several ways to build links, but the four commonest are article marketing, directory submissions, link requests and press release distribution.

Directory submissions are easy enough to manage, but it is time-consuming researching and locating on-line directories that suit your precise needs. The directories are only of any value to you if they are focused on the same topic to which your website is dedicated.

The link request is a manual process, and it calls for considerable effort. It is incumbent upon you to identify every site from which you wish to seek a link, and then contact the site owner to request that he add a link to your website. The return rate from this course is small.

Press release distribution can certainly have a favorable impact and a good return, but it is costly. The press release distribution agencies charge like wounded bulls for their services.

There are some free distribution services to be found, but they do not allow links, so the value of their “service” is severely limited.

That leaves you with the highly vaunted article marketing, and, quite frankly, article marketing is hard to fault. If you write your own copy you face no expense other than your time, and if you do feel the need to employ a professional writer you will not be up for much expense at all. Distribution of the articles involves simply sending them out to distribution services, most of whom will allow you to incorporate that all important link, and from there something of a snowballing effect takes over. Traffic generation to your website will take you very pleasantly by surprise, make no mistake, and in combination with search engine optimization and social bookmarking you will find yourself part of a business community that has no shop front on High Street and no signage around town – but enjoys as cost-effective a return on investment as one could ever imagine.
